If you are one of those wonderful parents who have constructed a playground for your children in your backyard, the next thing you should focus your attention on is playground safety. This is a very point to take note before you let your kids play on the swings and slides and forts which you have installed. There are many choices for playground safety available in the market, and even if you are stretched after purchasing a playground set for your kid, you still can find one that fit anyone’s budget. For a small price, you cannot beat the protective qualities of safety devices, as they are definitely a necessity for anyone who cares about their children. Let us look at some important facts and tips about playground safety.
Firstly, it should be extremely important for any parent to place a safety surface underneath their child’s play area. By doing so, you will be adding a new level of safety to your children’s playtime experience and could end up protecting them from a nasty fall. Protections such as rubber mats and rubber mulch are some of the rubber playground safety items that are becoming popular now.
If you are concerned, consider using rubber playground safety equipment or mulch which is the best way to protect your kid’s well being while they are playing around. And these equipments are pretty cheap. For around four dollars a square foot, you can purchase the next generation of rubber safety mulch. Of course you should note that these rubber playground safety devices are not 100% insurance against injury.
The other more traditional method to ensure playground safety is to use sandbox around the playground. If you are on a tight budget, then sand is then a better option than to letting your child play on the playground without any safety measure, but it should really be considered the last option of playground safety as it is not very effective in protecting your child.
Playground safety equipment should be designed for two different age groups: preschool children age 2- to 5-year-olds and school-age children age 5- to 12-year-olds. Designs can vary depending on what type of settings, how many children will utilize the play sets and how old the children are. Playground equipment should be made of durable materials that won't fall apart or worn down too much by the weather and should never be used if it is wet because moisture causes the surface to be slippery.
You should take note that there will be equipment that is not safe, no matter how careful your child is. The highest rates of injuries on public playgrounds are associated with climbing equipment, which is dangerous if not designed or used properly. Moving equipment such as swings are the most frequent source of childhood injuries and nearly 70 percent of playground injuries are caused by falls to the ground.
In addition, improper surfacing is the thing parents should watch for when they inspect a playground. Kids should always have adult supervision when they're at the playground. And if it is unsafe, then do report the problems to the owner or operator.
There are currently many choices of play ground safety, and as a parent, safety should be one of your biggest concerns for your children. All it takes is one slip or one careless error to send your child plummeting to the ground from at least ten feet in the air. So please bear in mind the importance of playground safety.
